Born outside of Chicago in Rockford, Illinois (U.S.A.) in 1980, Virgil Abloh is an artist, architect, and fashion designer. After earning a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, he obtained a master’s degree in Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology. It was there where Abloh was introduced to a curriculum established by Mies van der Rohe, formed from the notions of Bauhaus, that taught him to combine the fields of art, craft and design. These theories, merged with contemporary culture, make up Abloh’s inter-disciplinary practice today.

VIRGIL ABLOH
AMERICAN, BORN 1980

Abloh and Suay have co-designed and developed a new mask, expertly constructed for high filtration and breathability, tested with their medical partner, the prestigious Cleveland Clinic.

This non-woven (two-ply polypropylene) surgical wrap material is fully encased in a biascut Japanese power mesh.

The surgical wrap masks feature neon contrasted hued binding with adjustable ear loops, a masterfully crafted contoured face covering, and shipped in compostable packaging.

All proceeds will be directed to support COVID related research at the Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Global and Emerging Pathogens.

Expected to ship within 2-3 days.

Note: Our mask is not meant as a substitute for medical grade personal protective equipment. It does not help prevent you from being exposed to COVID-19 or any other disease. Rather, it is intended to protect other people from exposure in case you are infected. Use of our masks does not lessen the need for social distancing and other measures to stop the spread of COVID-19. Our masks have not been medically tested; and they have not been approved by the CDC, FDA, or any other governmental authority. We make no representations, warranties, or guarantees regarding the safety, efficacy, fitness, or appropriate use of these masks. Please follow the latest advice of the CDC and your own health care professionals as to how best to protect yourself. Hand wash, hang dry (elastic doesn’t love the dryer).

The production process for these masks was also rendered with a sustainability-minded focus; everything at Suay is made from a combination of post-consumer waste and deadstock integrated with domestically and organically grown fibers. Suay creates products in-house, at a 5,000 square foot space in east Los Angeles, where its employees operate with one key goal: eliminating the fashion industry’s significant amount of waste. (Items are even shipped with compostable packaging.) When it comes to face masks, this is critically important, given the increasing headlines about pollution from discarded coverings. Cleveland Clinic worked with an outside lab to test the masks’ material and degree of breathability. Testing showed that the breathability and particle filtration were high performing. Even after 20 washes, the masks continued to perform at a high level with an efficiency.

Disclaimer: This mask is the culmination of science, fashion, and function. Responsibly made in Los Angeles, California at Suay Sew Shop, this mask carries high function in breathability and filtration. With soft binding on the edges and a contouring nose strip that forms to the shape of your face, you can wear this mask without the risk of irritation. Adjustable earloops with loss prevention stopper design allows it to remain flexible, comfortable, and prevents slipping off during use. The power-mesh material on the outside of the medical wrap offers protection of this highly effective material through multiple washings, combining the science backed by the Cleveland Clinic, the innovative design that is synonymous with Off-White, and the high functionality and responsibility that are the standards of operation from Suay Sew Shop.

Suay Surgical Wrap Mask: Constructed from medical grade non-woven polypropylene surgical wrap, with adjustable elastic loops. Higher functioning with breathability. Essential workers (like us) in our community have been field testing them with amazing feedback. Although we are using a semi disposable interior, we designed these masks to last. In a surgical setting, the polypropylene material is intended to be discarded after a single use. However, our tests reveal no visible signs of wear after repeated washings.
